I really enjoyed the writing and coverage on 538, the podcast was in my regular rotation on my morning hikes.
The media/entertainment economy is in shambles right now and finding opportunities is hard but I’m as confident in you and the folks on your team will go on to something cool as one can be. Good luck and thanks for all your hard work!
Nathaniel, FiveThirtyEight has been one of my go-to sources of analysis since 2012, and you’re one of the team members I’ve appreciated the most. It’s stunning to learn that FiveThirtyEight is now a thing of the past. Wishing you and the rest of the team the best of luck and a gentle landing—I’ll certainly continue to follow your work.
Love all your YouTube videos and the rapport between you and Galen on the podcast. You guys really did get me to care about politics and data journalism. Devastated to lose my favorite podcast but following you wherever you end up next.
An incredible loss for political journalism — the insult to injury was ABC deleting the entire archive. Good luck, Nathaniel: I’ll be eagerly following your work as you move to new ventures.
I'm definitely going to miss the 538 podcast. If you and/or Galen keep some kind of data-type podcast thing going, I would certainly keep listening. Politics seemed to be a good field for using data to determine "things we know", "things we don't know", and "how sure we are that we know what we know".
I'll definitely miss 538 - it's been such a trusted source for several years. Given Disney just dropped it altogether after already beating it down these last couple years, I'd sure love to see you, Galen, Nate and the rest buy rights to the name and domain, and get back to your roots that way (and if we make Canada or Greenland the 51st state and add some new reps, then you could call the site 545 or however many reps there are at that point - j/k)! If not that, I look forward to following whatever you choose to pursue next. Thanks again for all the great content over the years!
I'm so sorry that this is happening, Nathaniel, and I hope we'll hear from you often on Substack. Nate Silver has built a large following on here, and I've no doubt you'll be able to do the same.
Really appreciate the way you walk through your journey at 538! It’s been a huge inspiration for me as well. I’m from Mexico City, and ever since my college years, I’ve been driven to create something similar. We don’t have that kind of data-driven journalism here, and I think it’s more necessary than ever.
Excited to see where you and the rest of the team land next—I’ll definitely be following along. And if you ever need insight on what’s happening south of the border, don’t hesitate to reach out!
Your work was consistently great and I am sure you will do amazing work in the future - and I look forward to reading it.

You’re a huge role model Nathaniel. I know you will continue to do such great things.
Will miss you and miss occasionally criticizing your posts, Nathaniel! Good luck with whatever life offers and wherever life takes you 💙
Congrats on an incredible run Nathaniel!
